James Layland
A brief history
In 1993, James Layland graduated from Imperial College with a first class degree in Physics. A keen musician, he won the Sir Eric Ash Scholarship to study the flute at the Royal College of Music. He retains strong links with Imperial College and has helped numerous students gain places there.
Since leaving Imperial he has been continually involved in education. After several years teaching Maths and Physics at a private tutorial college in South Kensington he gained the post of Co-Principal in 2000. Within a year he was Principal. Over the following six years, James took the college from strength to strength, in academic results, reputation, size and financial stability.
Throughout his career in education, James’ passion for teaching has helped change the lives of a great many students – from young children through to university students and adults returning to education. Teaching Maths and Physics remains his passion and, over the years, James has clocked up almost 40,000 hours of tutoring.
James offers private tuition and advice about education through his company ‘James Layland Tutors’. He runs a home tutoring agency called Elm Village Tutors which provides high quality tutors throughout London, and also acts as the Educational Consultant for London International Tutors.
